How to get from:
Take the No 39 minibus or bus from outside the airport terminal to the Moskovskaya metro station. Take the metro to Sennaya Ploshchad metro station and on exiting take the pedestrian crossing directly in front of the metro building. Turn right and take Sadovaya ulitsa until you reach Bankovsky Lane – the best landmark to look for is the large wedding dress shop on the corner of Bankovsky Lane. Turn left into the lane and walk 20m on the left hand side, until you see a small staircase under an awning – this is the hotel entrance– welcome to Friends!
Inside the station building itself, follow the ‘M’ signs into the Mayakovskaya metro station. Take Line 3 (the green line)in the direction of Primorskaya just one stop to Gostiny Dvor station, where you should take the ‘Griboyedov Quay’ exit. Exiting onto the canal, walk left towards a small pedestrian bridge with two golden winged lions on either side of it, continuing past the bridge until you come to Bankovsky Lane on your left. Walk through the big arch and down the right side of the street past the banks till the corner of the building. Turn the corner and you’ll see the hotel entrance (also signed). Go up the staircase and welcome to Friends!

Friends on Bankovsky hotel is located in a little-known side street, but there’s nevertheless the buzz of the big city all around. Within easy walking distance you’ll find many of the most popular clubs, bars and cafes of St Petersburg, as well as the famous Gostiny Dvor department store and more modern shopping centres in and around the Haymarket, just a couple of minutes’ walk away. On the next street over there’s a convenient grocery store where you can pick up supplies to use in the communal kitchen, or if you want a hot meal, there’s an affordable canteen in the courtyard of the hostel building, the food of which has been highly rated by many of our previous guests.

Nearby there’s plenty of civilised fun (what else could there be in Russia’s cultural capital?); Right outside you’ll find the Bermudy bar, and if you don’t mind a short walk, wander down ulitsa Dumskaya to the famously raucous bars Fidel and Dacha. A little further, around the famous Church on Spilled Blood, there’s also Mod, Kopen and Barack Obama Bar.
